| ALCHEMY SOAP | Package Design

CLIENT: Alchemy Soap. Unique artisan soap line assisting in specific mediation practices through a distinct scent experience. “Dreamed up by a enchantress and brewed in a cauldron, alchemy soaps call upon the magic of aroma to charm the mind, body, and spirit.”

ROLE: Graphic Designer

DELIVERABLES: Custom illustrations and package designs for three distinct soap scent profiles.

PROCESS: During our initial creative concept meeting, I listened intently as the client described her business, ideal clients, and the overall product vision which had elements of old world mysticism. When discussing inspiration she produced images of vintage taro cards, intricate illustrations of crystals, sage, & human figures, expressing she wanting a similar style. Although the these images were beautiful, they didn’t fit with the overall vibe of the company or target clientele she originally described. After some more Q&A, I suggested merging both styles, for a more modern, energetic approach. She was very tentative on deviating from her original idea. I was confident I could create something that she would be happy with so I offered a no strings attached deal, asking for a weeks time to create a rough draft of my concept with a color palette in a short presentation. If she disliked my concept, I wouldn’t charge her for the time and I would happily move forward with the original inspiration. She loved it!

Inspiration

I love the evil eye emblem and how it has been transformed over thousands of years, from religious icons to fashion elements… there is magic in eyes. With such a strong eye element, I wanted to keep that cohesive amongst all illustrations, but modify the graphic to better showcase the sent profile. I went with simplified line graphics and saturated colors to vibrate on the dark eggplant background. The intended print was to have embossed metallic ink on a thick paper. Unfortunately due to the stress of 2020, the owner decided hold off on production and currently the professional metallic printing hasn’t take place…. but imagine with me the deep embossed ridges unveiling elegant shimmers of the metallic ink from the light as the customer picks this up, and gently brings it up to their nose to take in the robust fragrance.
