PERSONAL PROJECT: Formulate a grid for a multiple page document (book), use of typeface, layout, and hierarchy.
REQUIREMENTS: Using the artist, Carole King and her Tapestry album, to create a book using the album lyrics and information about the artist and album. I wanted to create something unique so I came up with the idea of Field Guide to the Heart as the songs to me felt like an expression and map to this messy and emotional life.
DELIVERABLES: Printed book, 7x8.5 in (french fold).

Illustration Choice
I took inspiration from other various wildlife field guides as well as vintage heart diagrams. I also wanted to highlight the balance of the analytical with the emotional, so I chose to use heart illustrations that included modern additions.
Final Book Layout
Printed French Fold Layout
To accommodate a small batch printing, a french fold layout was used, where each layout is folded along the center and bound along the left and right side of the pages. Full bleed and color markers included. Four examples are shown below.
